I Will Never Be Afraid Again Flipnote

Alas, poor flipnote.. I knew thy well. You guys reading this know what Flipnote Hatena even is? Well for those who don't, let Papa White potato tell you a story.

A long, long fourth dimension ago, in the twelvemonth 2008, the Nintendo Dsi was released to the earth, and it came with this piddling app known equally Flipnote. It was a completely free tool for animation, with a limited amount of pages to employ, however you could adjust the speed of the frame rate, with smoother flipnotes being rather curt. You had to draw everything frame past frame unless y'all wanted to use stills for certain scenes and draw over them later. You only had three colours to utilise in the outset version: Blackness, Red, and Bluish, White if y'all include using black paper, and even then you could but use two colours at a time.

Despite how express this was compared to something like adobe flash, people could create amazing things on Flipnote. Stick fights are a thing of the past on early YouTube, and they were everywhere on flipnote, just they were ordinarily quite impressive considering they had to draw everything frame by frame.

But what if you wanted to share them? What if yous wanted to have a look at someone else's work? Well, at that place was Flipnote Hatena, basically if YouTube was meant for just animators.. and was filled with early 2010 memes.

... aye, sound quality may not be the all-time, but there was only one microphone on the Dsi, and you had to record the audio in one go with 3 curt audio bites you could employ for audio effects, so we could give creators credit for that.

I recall when I'd take a flipnote and edit the music though I never posted any flipnotes to Hatena as I was a scared little lad who couldn't animate. I also think there being an add stars arrangement on Hatena. Though I accept no idea what Stars did, I presume it was similar to hitting a like button on a YouTube video. And but like YouTube information technology was filled to the skirt with early YouTube Memes and random humour. Dr. Octagonapus, Weegee Rick Roll'd, the epic face.... what a terrible time to be live. To be fair information technology's non every bit bad every bit some memes we have today that died within weeks. It was a much simpler time back then..

Then what happened? Well, in 2013, information technology was sadly discontinued on the Dsi, most probable because Nintendo wanted to focus on the 3Ds, like how Miiverse was shut downward recently... too soon?

Now there is a new version on 3Ds, called Flipnote 3D for obvious reasons, and is kinda arguably better in some ways. This fourth dimension you could apply green and yellow! Oh, and in that location was a 3D office, too.. sometimes I forget the 3Ds can do 3D.

However, at that place is one disadvantage... there's no Hatena. No sharing online.. for what reason, I'm non sure. Which may be for the best, it could be filled with dabbing and Logan Paul and god knows what else.. on the other hand it feels similar a huge missed opportunity. It isn't pre-installed in the 3Ds, y'all tin nonetheless purchase information technology with coins using MyNintendo, and it's pretty easy to become. For whatever future artists and animators out there, I highly recommend this. It is truthful that you can find flipnotes on YouTube today, some people making new ones, simply how could it REALLY come back?

That's correct, I want to bring Flipnote back on the Switch. Only how volition it work, y'all may enquire? Afterwards all, the Switch has bear on controls in handheld mode but no stylus, and how would information technology work on Goggle box? I have several solutions, you see...

1. Stylus Add on

I experience similar this is something Nintendo would do, release a new stylus pen for the Switch. A DS stylus doesn't work on the Switch, but maybe they could design a drawing tablet type of pen. It would as well be useful for games that use touch controls, similar Sushi Striker.

two. Tablet USB

For Tv mode, they could make a USB plug for a tablet they tin connect to the Television set, similar the Wii U game pad, merely it'south just used for touching things.. I mean y'all could probably apply Joy cons as well but that won't translate well while cartoon.

3. Bring dorsum the online feature.

These deserved to be shared with the world! I don't care if Nintendo is concerned near the children, Flipnote should be free to everyone! During my fourth dimension on flipnote I never once institute anything inappropriate, everyone would be as clean as possible. Though I suppose seeing how the internet is now, I can see that Hatena would be filled with.. y'all know what.

And that nearly sums things upwardly.. Flipnote Hatena was my personal introduction to animation, and to this day I wish I could revisit those days once more. You may remember some of those animations may have been "cringey", just these were the exact kind of things I wanted to brand equally a child, but never had the chance to. Hopefully anytime I'll get another run a risk. Just let me be mushy for a moment here.. thank you lot, Flipnote Hatena, for making me the artist I am now.
